Description
Brew, taste and learn more about specialty coffee’s journey from farm to cup! This broad ranging 6 hour coffee training class introduces key skills and concepts in several important areas, laying the groundwork for further exploration in future classes.
We begin by calibrating our palates to basic tastes and introducing the Coffee Tasters Flavor Wheel. Then we’ll practice sensory evaluation of a variety of specialty coffees in a coffee cupping.
Next, we’ll explore the origins of coffee flavors. We’ll discuss coffee farms and growing from past to present, introduce the ways that terroir, species, and green coffee processing affects the finished cup, and explore the impacts of coffee roasting.
We finish our day by introducing the essential elements of coffee brewing. We’ll learn about brewing a balanced cup, exploring the impacts of varying key recipe elements and grind setting while we practice using manual brewing devices.
Lunch, snacks, and all course materials are provided. No prior experience is necessary. This class is great for home coffee enthusiasts and professionals and also a great starting point for SCA barista training classes. This is not an SCA class.
